Carnival of the Animals Orchestra Visit (Nov 2017)

On Thursday 30th November Year 3 and 4 pupils and Grasmere Resource Base were entertained by a talented ensemble from Cumbria Music Service, performing ’The Carnival of the Animals’. This lively and entertaining classical work by French composer Camille Saint-Saens featured great compositions such as “The Fossils”, “The Swan”, and The Tortoise”.

Four skilful musicians played a variety of instruments including the Keyboard, Clarinet, Flute, and Bassoon. The instrumentalists amazed the audience with the depth and range of sounds they created. The children also played percussion instruments to accompany the quartet and to imitate the movements of the animals. The poems matching each piece were shared and read aloud within this special session. This high-quality live music performance was very atmospheric and thoroughly enjoyed by all – thank you everyone!

Afterwards, some classes created animal masks and explored other poems, which were inspired by the music of Saint-Saens. We would like to thank Cumbria Music Education Hub for their continued support.
