Barnum - 'The Greatest Show on Earth' (Nov 2014)

On Wednesday 12th November North Lakes School and members of the Choir, travelled to The Palace Theatre Manchester to experience the hit Broadway and West End Musical Barnum staring Brian Conley. The children thought it was…

“Fantastic! Amazing! Spectacular! Best thing we have ever seen! Talented! Flamboyant!”

This exhilarating musical followed the wild imagination and dreams of Phineas T Barnum, America’s Greatest Showman. The show followed the legendary showman’s life as he lit up the world with the colour, warmth and excitement of his imagination and finally teamed up with J.A. Bailey to create Barnum and Bailey’s Circus – the Greatest Show on Earth!

As usual, children from North Lakes were excellent ambassadors being very polite and well mannered. One member of the public commented “The children are well behaved and so courteous and considerate towards other theatre goers”. The staff at the theatre stated, “A brilliant group of children, one of the best schools we have had!”

During our journey home, we tweeted our thoughts to the leading lady, Linzi Hateley, who has been in musicals such as Les Miserables, Mary Poppins and Joseph. She was lovely and let the children ask her some questions – here are her responses:

Maddie and Kofi asked… “How did your career take off?”
Lindzi replied… “I went to theatre school and had my lucky break at 17 in a musical called Carrie!”
Ollie asked… “What are the qualities you need to be an actress?”
Lindzi replied… “Mmm - to be versatile”
Tyler K asked… “What is the best show you have been in and why?”
Lindzi replied… “Barnum, of course, because you all had a great time,. Thanks for coming!”

A big thank you must go to all of our adult helpers, without whom, trips and experiences such as this would not be possible.
